Things to do in Caernarfon

Things to do, see and visit during your stay in Caernarfon

Caernarfon Castle (Cadw)

Caernarfon Castle is shrouded in medieval history and recognised legend. Its immense walls guard the banks of the river Seiont, a structured fortress that has stood proudly for over 700 years. Positioned harbourside, this incredible example of classic English architecture has withstood the vast modernisation of Caernarfon as a salute to the stories that built Wales as we know it today.

Gypsy Wood Family Fun Park

Experience a charming family day out at Gypsy Wood Family Fun Park where your children can marvel at the magic of fairies within the rugged wilderness that their legend stems from. Gypsy Wood is an attraction like no other where you’ll discover plenty of activities designed to keep your children and ourselves entertained all day including Gypsies Maze, Woody’s Railway, a Musical Treehouse and Fairy Hunt.

Sygun Copper Mine

Sygun Copper Mine is a true wonder of Wales - a remarkable example of how the rich industrial history of a country can be preserved and transformed into an educational experience for tourists and local residents alike. Divulge yourself in the tunnels with self-guided tours that are separated by colourful chambers and the remaining echo of copper, silver and even gold embedded in the rocks.

Segontium Roman Fort

Roman relics are a rare treasure in the Welsh countryside but Segontium Fort holds strong after nearly two thousand years. Segontium has passed into legend as Caer aber Seint – ‘the fort at the mouth of the Saint river’. Although it might not seem as grand as it once was, it is worth visiting to marvel at the ancient settlement.

Beacon Climbing Centre

Beacon Climbing Centre is the largest indoor climbing centre in North Wales with climbing areas attuned to people of all abilities. From climbers aged 2+ to adults, this cornucopia of traditional climbing rocks and crazy climbing obstacles provides a sociable and dynamic environment for families, friends and solo mountaineers alike. Relax at the cafe where the food is made using local produce and you can overlook your little ones as they ascend the climbing wall.

Gelert’s Grave Walk

The legend of Gelert the Hound is surely one of great tragedy; a hound unfairly slain for an act of murder he did not commit, but his memory lives on at the grave site where he is commemorated today. Gelert’s Grave Walk takes you past Gelert’s Grave through the village of Beddgelert. This riverside trail is dog friendly and suitable for those travelling with children or who require access due to disability.

Spy Mission Treasure Trail

Take yourself on a guided tour around Caernarfon with the Town’s beloved Spy Mission Treasure Trail. Solve riddles and beat the clock along the circular walk - but remember, the villain has allotted 1.5 hours to find the deactivation code so you’ll need all your brain power to crack the case. Are you up to the challenge?
